What is an overhead crane?
An overhead crane is a static fixed structure that provides overhead lifting. This means they can move objects side to side and forwards and backwards. They do provide vertical lift but are limited by their size and height. Their lifting hoist is mounted to a trolley for horizontal movement across a bridge beam connected to one or more girders which are support by end trucks
How does an overhead crane work?
Overhead cranes move very heavy objects in a rectangular space in a facility or outdoors. They can be used to support manufacturing, storage, loading, assembly, warehousing, transportation, etc. They are an overhead structure usually consisting of girders or alternatively built into the structure of a building. In addition to the overhead structure the crane has a hoist that is moveable horizontally in either single directions or multiple directions. The hoist can be positioned manually or can be moved using an electronic control panel.
Types of overhead crane
Overhead cranes come in many styles and types.
Single girder overhead crane = single beam attached to two runways and end trucks.
Double girder overhead crane = two beams set atop a runway and end trucks.
