What is a skid steer?
A skid steer is a compact earth moving or digging machine so called due to the way it moves or ‘skids’. They only point straight ahead the wheels cannot turn, much like a tank you steer by speeding up the left or the right hand side of the vehicle. This makes the wheels or in some cases tracks drag or skid (and the name was born).

How much does a skid steer weigh?
There are many types and makes of skid steer and their weight does vary but a rough guideline is:
Small frame skid steer = <1750lbs>
Medium frame skid steer = 1750lbs-2250lbs
Large frame skid steer = >2250lbs
Extra large can go up to 11000lbs
How wide is a skid steer?
Standard skid steers tend to range between 1m and just over 2m depending on the model and size. The widest part of a skid steer is usually the lifting bucket so without the lifting bucket attached a skid steer can be slightly narrower. The world’s largest skid steers can lift up to about 12ft vertically.
How to use a skid steer?
Skid steers are relatively simple machines. To propel the steer forward you push forward on the two steering levers located at the front of the cab. To push the skid steer backwards you pull backwards. To turn right you push the left lever forward and for a small turn don't touch the right lever. For a tight quick turn you can push the left lever and pull the right lever simultaneously.
